What are Dental Crowns

Dental Crowns are a great solution if you have a decayed, worn out, broken or weak tooth. Dentists use a dental crown (a tooth-shaped and tooth-coloured cover or cap) that fits over your weak, damaged or decayed tooth to restore function and a natural look. Dental crowns may be made from different materials, such as porcelain, ceramic metal, and resin

What Exactly Are Dental Crowns?

To put it plainly, dental crowns are tooth-shaped caps that are used to restore the size, strength and shape of a damaged tooth. These caps are basically placed over the teeth and they cover the entire visible part of your tooth. Crowns are cemented either onto an implant or onto an existing tooth. After the procedure you will only see the crown above the gum line.

Dental crowns can help you to overcome even the most challenging dental problems. They are commonly preferred over other options and they can provide you with a complete uniform smile along with a functional bite.

Our Process

1

Consultation

Your journey to a crown restoration begins with a consultation with your dentist. During the consultation, the dentist will examine your teeth, and explain your treatment options. You can discuss your concerns and goals with us during this time. We’ll answer all your questions and create a personalized treatment plan to meet your needs and preferences.

2

Customization

Every tooth crown we make is unique to the patient. With 3D digital imaging, we design a crown that fits your tooth perfectly and gives you a natural smile. Our dental lab uses the information to create a custom crown, making sure you achieve an optimal fit, feel, look and function.

3

Procedure

Dental crown treatment typically involves two visits:

  1. First visit: We take the impression of the tooth with 3D digital imaging and prepare the tooth for a crown. A temporary crown is placed on your tooth.
  2. Second visit: The temporary crown is removed. We place your permanent crown on the tooth, check the fit and bond it securely in place.

We make sure you are fully informed and comfortable at each step of the process.

4

Follow-Up Care

After crown placement, we’ll share detailed instructions for daily care. A follow-up appointment would be scheduled to check the crown’s fit and to address any concerns.

FAQs

1. How much do dental crowns cost?

The cost of dental crown procedures depends upon the material used, complexity of the procedure, and insurance coverage. We offer different options to suit different needs and budgets. You would receive a detailed cost breakdown during your initial consultation.

2. How long do dental crowns last?

With good care, your dental crown can last 10-15 years, and even longer. The life of your dental crown depends on the material used and oral hygiene.

3. Is the dental crown procedure painful?

Your dentist would use local anesthesia to ensure a painless, comfortable procedure. Most patients experience little to no discomfort. If there’s any sensitivity after the procedure, it would go away soon.

4. How can I care for my dental crown?

Crown care is similar to regular dental care. Brush your teeth twice daily, and floss regularly. Avoid biting on excessively hard and chewy food. Do not use your teeth as tools. Schedule regular checkups with your dentist to maintain your crown and overall oral health.

5. Can a crowned tooth decay?

Your dental crown can’t decay but the tooth beneath can. Good oral hygiene will ensure the tooth doesn’t decay at the edge of the crown where the two meet.

6. How long does the dental crown procedure take?

The dental crown procedure usually requires two visits. The first is a preparation visit in which your dentist would examine the tooth, and place a temporary crown. This would take about 60-90 minutes. The second visit would require 30-60 minutes, in which your dentist would bond the permanent crown to your tooth.

7. Will the dental crown look natural?

We use high-quality materials, and advanced technology to match the contour, colour, shape and size of your crown to your natural teeth. Our dental crown services ensure your dental crown looks natural and blends in with the rest of your teeth to give you a confident smile.

8. Can I eat normally with a dental crown?

Once the permanent crown is in place, and any initial sensitivity subsides, you can eat normally. Avoid excessively hard, chewy, or sticky foods to prolong the life of your dental crown.
